Spring Cleaning for your Physical & Emotional Health
“Spring: A Lovely Reminder of how beautiful change can be”
It’s spring time, friends! For many people, seasonal depression hits hard during the winter months. Spring can be seen as a time for change, renewal, and growth. A time to let go of what has been weighing you down.
If you are someone who struggles with seasonal depression then you are likely feeling a sense of excitement and motivation as this new season of life approaches. Keep reading for how to change up your routines to match the energy of spring:
1. Reorganize your closet. As you go through your clothes try to only hang onto items that bring you joy and are “staple” items. Repeat the affirmation: “I am making room for things that bring me joy and happiness” as you declutter & donate!
2. Create a corner of the house that is just for you. This could be a reading nook, a creativity corner, or a meditation/decompression zone-you decide!
3. Do a “social” declutter. We all take in so much information on a daily basis, which has a direct correlation to our mood/head space. Consider unfollowing accounts that no longer bring you joy or that lead to self-comparison. Unsubscribe from email accounts that clutter your inbox. Organize your digital photos. Notice the relief you feel as you do this!
4. Get rid of old skin care products/makeup. Use this as an opportunity to update products to prepare for the change of seasons/warmer months ahead.
5. Do a deep clean of “highly populated areas”. Dust off every surface in your house. Wash your bedding, towels, robes, etc. Reflect on how it feels to have a clean, organized living space as you do this.
6. Take a few minutes to journal out your feelings as you head into spring. What routines helped you to get through the winter months? Do you want to update any of these routines for the spring? What is no longer serving you? Write out what you are looking forward to about spring and what you would like to leave behind as we step into a new season.
I hope that you found these ideas helpful! Let’s embrace this new season of life as it unfolds before us. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you are in need of mental health assistance: (757) 434-5811, vbcounselingcollective@gmail.com
